Information is all that matters

Operational Intelligence

Engineers must be given quality information

One of the core principles of BOE is every decision made in the informational realm must be made to enable the core efficiencies of your company - e.g. engineers.  Too often, the only decision made by an engineer vis-a-vis information is the selection of the vertical application for their engineering needs.  At BOE, we recognize the need to assist the engineer with the information needs, offering

Information Modeling

The very nature of engineering is problem solving, and as such, most engineers take a liking to information, resulting in many curious scenarios.  BOE has the expertise to assist the engineer reach the ultimate goal.

Bridging the gap

From our experience, we have found gaps in the information flow between information technology and the engineers who desperately need the data.  BOE has expertise in helping bridge this gap.

Information

Information is data that has meaning and context

Data is nothing without meaning and context.  Consider a well that is producing 100 BOPD - this alone tells us very little about the well.  Now add that the price of oil is $50/bbl.  We still don't know if the well is profitable.  It is only when we add the expenses to the well that we get a sense of the well.  And the more context we add to the data, the more meaningful the information is, which will lead us to intelligence.  Too often, we fall back on data mining and analytics merely to pull data from vertical applications.  However, there is much more to information and intelligence.

KPI Identification

From our experience, we found that most companies are using the wrong KPI to measure their performance.  Let BOE assess your strategy and develop a set of KPI that will keep you on track to success.

Data Element Analysis

In many instances, information is just beyond our grasp, as we cannot find the correct data elements to add the richness of context that is needed.  BOE has the expertise to assist with finding data elements that may fall outside your company.

Master Data Management

It's all about alignment across the well lifecycle

Master Data Management (MDM) may be the most misused and misunderstood three letter acronym (TLA) in the upstream oil space in the last 10 years.  As is the case with many other so-called information solutions, master data management has not been able to make the leap from other industries into the upstream sector of oil & gas.  The uniqueness of the upstream sector makes it virtually impossible to deploy a true mdm solution.  At BOE, we prefer to think in terms of data "alignment" across the well life cycle.  What is important is to make sure data is "aligned" correctly across the vertical silos in order to draw information from the data hidden in the various vertical applications in your organization.  BOE offers the following services to assist you in this effort.

New Asset Creation

The process of adding new assets to an aligned system is critical for the longevity of the information derived from the system.  Let BOE assist with the new asset creation process.

Reporting & ETL

Picking the right tools

One of the main reasons for starting BOE was the proliferation of data analytics and ETL tools in the upstream oil sector.  However, very few of them are suited for the uniqueness of the upstream sector.  For example, one vendor's tagline is "we want to make every engineer a data analyst".  Why would an executive of an upstream operator wants his engineers spending time working as a data analyst, when his core efficiency is finding, drilling, and producing the black gold.  At BOE, we believe in enabling engineers in such a way that they can spend their time finding more oil & gas, not learning the subtleties or primary and foreign keys.  BOE can give your company a fresh, experienced, unvarnished look at the data analytics landscape.

Reporting Assessment

Please don't be fooled by the magical words - "Data Analytics".  These words, in and of themselves, mean nothing.  Let BOE assess your reporting tools and strategy to ensure operational information success.

PDF Scraping

Don't let data get lost in your PDF documents.  Through a unique partnership, BOE can scrape any PDF you may have, delivering data in a contextual format ready for use.

Data Warehousing

Perhaps the 2nd most overused tool is the data warehouse.  Unless properly design, which should favor operational decision making, data warehouses are nothing more than a money pit.  BOE can quickly determine the best route for you.
